Indy
A girl named Kez
And her partner Les
Tried tae secure ma vote
They told me of the future
And wit policies tae note
But I asked about ma country
And if it had twa feet
And why the English governed us
And did it no make you greet?
I cried the cry of freedom
I think it got their goat
Cos Les stood up and handed Kez her coat
The writings on the wall I said
If only folk wid listen
The party's getting started
And it's only youse that's missin'
Of A Haggis
A brave wee haggis called Gus
Set off on a trip tae Luss
But he wound up in Troon
Lying upside doon
Cos he fell asleep on the bus.
No Good Thing Ever Dies
Dreams are like the stars we see on a clear moonless night.
They steer us through the darkest times and keep the path in sight.
Whatever happens on the road ahead that may pull us to the side.
Our dreams will serve to guide us as we swim against the tide.
Wars rage and battles lost, heads are bowed as they count the cost
But whilst star light shines from a blackened sky or hope be born of a butterfly
Dreams above it all will rise for no good thing ever dies.
Alba gu bràth
The Mustard
A Scotsman and his bonnie lassie
Feeling fit and rather sassie
Went out one day to climb a hill
The views up there were bound to thrill
When a wind blew round the poor man's kilt
The lassies head did quickly tilt
Trying hard to calculate
As he struggled there upon yon gate
"Mmm Willy" she smugly blustered
"I've brought a sandwich and I see you've got the mustard."
And Dreams Can't Die
We've had a vote and most said no
So what else more do you need to know?
Well all of those who voted Yes
Think the place is an awfy mess
We're ruled by folk from a foreign land
Who always keep the upper hand
They pick our leaders and make our law
Choose Tory bleeders who punish the poor
But we've had a vote and the folk agreed
That for a fairer way there's not the need
They're alright Jock as things now stand
With effective rule in English hands
The only race on planet Earth
That lets another prove its worth
Hope that was born in ages past
Stifled now and shadows cast
But hope that was wove on spiders looms
And rinsed in blood from a thousand tombs
Now borne on the wings of a butterfly
It lives in dreams and dreams can't die.
Of A Bagpipe Player
A bagpipess from Auchterarder
Couldn't have blown her chanter harder
But the sound she squeezed out
Caused spectators to doubt
And some brought stale fruit to bombard her.
Stand Free
Scotland stand free
No great step
Just ordinary
Take care of what's ours
Without ivory towers
Help where we can
All the children of man
But here where it counts
A country that's fair
That's proud to care
Proud to share
The wealth of our land
The strength in our hands
Stand free
And see.. what we can be
Stand free.
A Pretty Girl Fae Aberdeen
I knew a girl fae Aberdeen
Wie the prettiest smile there's ever been
But the image I remember best
Her bending over getting dressed
She’d the canniest arse you've ever seen
We Arra Peeple
We walk reluctantly through the narrow doors
That bind us
That click shut behind us
No use turning round
Trying a handle
You know now where you can find us
“We took our country back”
From its minders
In, Out, Leave, Remain
Vote, Abstain
But don't complain
Or remind us
They've realigned us.
